Disclaimer: I am not here to hurt any conductor community or any one else. I am writing this article from my 5 years of experience of traveling in BMTC buses. I am not going to mention any bus route, bus number, conductor’s name because it is applicable to 99% of bus conductors. While making calculations I assumed (not necessary,because these are real statistics too)that each one way trip has atleast 15 stops , so for round trip its 30. And it takes 3 hrs to finish a round trip in average traffic areas. Daily there can be 4 trips minimum. And buses are always full. I am very poor at maths so to do calculationa I have used calculator. Don’t blame me if calculations are wrong. All calculations are done assuming minimum profit to conductor. Maximum earn for a conductor will be much more. These are applicable to both male,female conductors
Ok if any bus conductor is reading this and is new to the job he can take these tips to make money (which I feel not required as he will learn on his own in a day). And for others it is just to know that how much loss it is causing to our government(its secondary thing to think that what government would have done with this money)
Trick1:
This is mostly used trick by conductors:
If you are going from one stop to very next stop. Then minimum charge is 3 rs. You give 3 rs to the conductor and he will return u back 1 rs. without ticket.So you are happy that you managed to save 1 rs. But do think that you didn’t get the ticket and its same for you as you would have not offered any money and escaped. So it’s a foolishness. Always demand for ticket if you are paying.
Lets see how much money conductor can make yearly by this trick. Assume he get atleast 1 such bakra for every 3 stops so he gets 10 rs in one round trip(15+15=30 stops). For 4 round trip in a day he gets 40 rs. So daily 40 rs means yearly 14600.
Trick 2:
This is again used in the name of change(chiller). Very much helpful when bus is fully packed.
You buy a ticket for 8-9 rs and conductor wil give you ticket with a number written on its back which says u have to wait till ur stop comes to take the change amount. Which is 1-2 rs. Sometimes even if you give them 100 rs note they will write remaining 92-91 rs on back (but in this case chances of earning are less, as no one will forget to take such big amount). As bus is jam packed. By the time you reach conductor or he reaches you bus will start and u will better prefer to get down rather waiting for 1-2 rs. or sometimes people like me forget to take change.
Lets see how much money same conductor can make yearly using this trick.
Again 1 such bakra every 3 stop. But here as change amount may vary so lets take 1.5 rs avg earning per 3 stops. So for one round trip(30 stops) 15 rs. For 4 round trips in a day 60 rs. Yearly 21900 rs.
Trick 3:
This trick is a modified form of above trick and if conductor is dare(n lucky too) enough he can make huge amount from this. As in trick 2 u get a ticket with a number written on its back .Now you have a ticket in your hand which is worth 8-9 rs and you have to take 1-2 rs change. So when you reach conductor he takes ticket from you to check whether he has only written it. Once verified he tare off that small part of ticket and give u change and u happily get down.So how conductor is making money here. You didn’t understand??
Please check your pocket …did you find ticket ..no?? yes thts the way he is making money..when he took your ticket for giving you change he didn’t give u back ticket along with change and you too didn’t bother about it. So now he will sell it to other person..so he is making 8-9 rs here..and after taking your ticket he may use trick two on other person for same ticket. Or he can use trick 3 again on other person with same ticket. So if used wisely he can earn a lot from this trick.But this is not used frequently because the conductors have to keep record of ticket numbers they sold at every stop. So its risky for them if they are caught selling same ticket to another person at another stop.
And some conductors are so shyless tht they will ask you directly to give ticket back to him as it is of no use for u (once he confirms no TC there at next stop whr u r getting down)..
Lets see how much money same conductor can make from this trick
On avg in one round trip he find 3 such bakra. So around 25 rs (8*3=24 …9*3=27…so better chosen 25.). in one trip(30 stops). So 4 trips in a day 100 rs..36500 rs in a year
Trick4:
More than trick its my suggestion to conductors to use this ..hehe..Use fake tickets to give away..and who knows if this trick is already in use….. you can be millaniore in a month..hehe..bas don’t be caught in bus
All first 3 kinds of tricks they have played on me so I m sure about them. trick 4 also they might have played but m so dumb that I cant make out difference between fake note n original( please now don’t decide to give me fake notes next time..) then how will identify fake bus ticket..
So excluding trick 4 a conductor in a year can make 14600+21900 +36500=73000 rs
Ok lets assume that there is 50:50 share between driver and conductor (actually conductor takes more share without knowledge of driver…as he can fool u he can cheat driver too) so each gets 36500 rs per year extra other than their salary.But the total loss is to government.
Lets see how much loss all the conductors are causing ko Bangalore government yearly
There are around 5500 buses (source BMTC Official website) running in Bangalore
Assume atleast 75% conductors use these tricks.
So 4125 conductors cheat. So 4125*73000= 301125000 rs loss to government yearly.
Tht is
30.11 crores.
Now you may think that why give money to government when anyways its not to use for us..even government wil use this money to deposit in swiss bank..so whats wrong if conductors cheat us.they are poor so they do..but guys they are doing their job and government is paying them. and to pay them again they are taking money from us only..so we are the loosers finally. Both way we loose money… So if you want to help poor people there are many other people who really neeed money so next time instead of saving 1 rs in bus keep it and give it to who really needs it..this way you will help your country, the really needy one and also will not encourage corruption.. Mind it…...!!!!!!!!!!!
